Baby Boomers Divorce the Most

Baby Boomers

Baby Boomers – which is anyone born between 1945 and 1964 – are the generation with the highest rate of divorce. In fact, Baby Boomers, who are now in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, are divorcing as much now as they did in their younger years.

In an article published on the Right at Home blog, social scientists suggest that Baby Boomers are quick to divorce in part because they grew up in an era of “sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll” during which rebellion and failing to adhere to social norms was accepted and even encouraged. So, if Baby Boomers are not happy in their marriages, they’re likely not going to stay in them.

Regardless of generation, couples sometimes lose the spark that drew them together in the first place. Sometimes commitment alone isn’t enough when times get difficult.

Additionally, communication can break down in a marriage, as it can in any relationship. Certainly some couples are able to improve their communication. But other couples reach a point of no return.

People change. What were once shared interests may not be shared interests anymore. People’s opinions, politics, lifestyles, and more all change. Sometimes those changes create a situation in which a married couple is no longer compatible.
